Brian is also active in the Society of Decision Professionals (SDP) and is chairing the Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter which brings together practitioners of Decision Quality and other individuals such as Data Scientists that are interested in the subject with the objective of promoting better decision quality. He also leads an SDP interest group on Cost and Schedule Risk analysis.
Brian worked for 25 years for Chevron performing project analysis in the petroleum industry, mostly upstream. He holds a BA in Economics from Claremont McKenna College, BS in General Engineering Stanford University, and a MS in Operations Research from Stanford University.
Brian was a pioneer at Chevron in the use of probabilistic analysis beginning in 1992. In 2008 he assumed the role of Organizational Capability Manager for Business & Economic Evaluation, Strategy & Planning. In this role he was responsible for improving Decision Analysis organizational capability throughout Chevron Corporation that included developing decision analysis (DA) evaluation techniques, training programs at all levels, development of Corporation Analysis guidelines, and personnel development of DA employees worldwide. In addition, he managed a team of internal DA consultants that supported the various Chevron Upstream operating companies and their business units around the world. When he retired the Chevron DA organization had grown to 230 full time analysts.
